How Can I Go Green?
Solar Water Heating
Solar water heating systems uses heat from the sun to warm hot water in your home. You may need to heat the water with a boiler further during the less sunny months in winter, however. Long term, a solar thermal system will reduce your energy bill and lower your carbon footprint.

Floor InsulationInstalling under floorboard insulation can save you around £44 - £55 per year. Gaps and draughts around skirting boards and floors are simple to fix yourself with a tube of sealant bought from any DIY store. Floorboards will rot without decent ventilation so don't block under-floor airbricks in your outside walls.
Older homes are more likely to have suspended timber floors. Timber floors can be insulated by lifting the floorboards and laying mineral wool insulation, supported by netting between the joists. |
